Velus Jones Jr Interview

I haven’t even finished my 2022 Draft Review, and Velus Jones Jr is feeding me Halas Hall Kool Aid from a firehose! This interview on the Parkins and Spiegel Show blew my mind, even after reading several quotes from it elsewhere! (Jones joins around the 2:30 mark.)

In hindsight, perhaps the only thing I still liked about Ryan Pace was that he hired class acts, high character guys, like Akiem Hicks, Allen Robinson Jr, Cole Kmet and Justin Fields. Velus Jones Jr is clear evidence that it wasn’t Pace, after all; the Bears Scouting Department is still finding guys I want on any team I care about!

First, and foremost, Velus Jones Jr recognizes that his football ability is a gift from God, and, as Julia Cameron points out in “The Artists Way”, putting one’s gift to the best possible use is the only way to thank God for that gift. I admire that, and write this blog because God made me a fairly good writer.

Second…no, just next, because the order doesn’t matter after that…Velus Jones Jr represents the very new trend in the NFL of giving a hoot about what your QB thinks about draft prospects. Justin Fields signed off on the guy prior to the draft, and that is something one rarely hears about.

That also means that the foundation of a bond between Jones and Fields started getting laid even before Fields was drafted! Not like they were tight, but, like Ryan Poles and Matt Eberflus, they had noticed each other over the years! That is Premium Halas Hall Kool Aid, right there, take it from a connoisseur!

Next, Velus Jones Jr, when asked what his “end game” is in the NFL, barely left a beat before he said “A Gold Jacket.” As casual as casual gets, just like that. “A Gold Jacket.” This is a man on a mission to outperform expectations.

What better place to burst onto the scene than on a rebuilding football team, in an offense being custom built around a QB he wanted to play with, in a scheme/regime which values versatility.

Many pundits worried about Velus Jones Jr’s age, but, that never bothered me. That said, he must burst onto the scene, if he is to give Hall of Fame aspirations much hope going forward. I believe he can, and I believe he will be one of many large, pleasant, surprises on the Bears offense in 2022!

I had convinced myself that “take back the North” meant “eventually”; Velus Jones Jr is making me wonder if I sold Ryan Poles short! Bear Down and Pass the Halas Hall Kool Aid!
