Chicago Bears Draft Grade for Dominique Robinson
Dominique Robinson is yet another example of the Chicago Bears Scouting Department finding and getting drafted class act after class act! Kudos to Ryan Poles for seeing the value in that, but the Scouting Department seems to be the spring from which Halas Hall Kool Aid flows.
Poles just hires the guys, the scouts are the ones who get to know them, their stories, and their families. Dominique Robinson is quite a story, and was from the instant he was picked, being a” QB turned WR turned DE”. Who has that resume?
But, it goes far beyond that! It is small change that friends had told him he looked like a defensive guy. But, I’m putting a BIG $ value on the rest of the story. His coaches were considering moving him to TE because they thought he could be more valuable than at WR, and they were afraid he was going to ask for the transfer portal when he went in to ask for the move to DE.
Then, with the pandemic year as his first year at the new position, he responded to what sounds to me like a lack of coaching, by self-diagnosing and correcting the lack of get off power in his stance. (I’m not judging the coaches, everything was harder for everybody that year and Dominique Robinson was a project) Anyway, again, who has that resume?
Then, he not only presents himself as a classy guy, but, oh, by the way, he also doesn’t drink or smoke, was a few hours away from his Masters in Psych and wants to be a HS counsellor after football. Premium Halas Hall Kool Aid!
Then, at the end of his Halas Hall presser, when asked if he though it was an advantage to him that the new defense is new to the returning vets as well, and he responded that the vets and coaching staff “feels like these guys have been together for…a little while now…”
Dominique Robinson is a man eager to make the best of every opportunity that comes his way. When he gets up to speed, don’t be in the way! Bear Down, and pass the Halas Hall Kool Aid!
